Ok i posted about a week ago the issue with the window switches, door locks not working on our 2008 v70. I had it to an independent shop to have a look. He did have a computer that was able to communicate with the car. He also noted that the outside temp gauge was reading -9!
The computer said door module not responding. He said that the module would be expensive and that a volvo dealer needed to install it(software).
I was doing research and found simular problems with other volvos. The others had the same stuff going on, no power going to door outside temp malfunction. The issue was something to do with corrosion and wiring harness going to the module being bad. Anyone know anything?
I had zero responses from first post.
About a year after delivery of my BTO '06 s40 T5 it developed a problem where the master door lock and window control unit would intermittently only operate the driver's and left passenger windows and door locks. The problem then got more bizzare when the key fob wouldn't open the driver's side locks, but would open the passenger side locks. My dealer replaced the wire harness to the door and everything worked fine for a while, but the problem reoccured.
Apparently the dealer failed to download a required software update linked to the harness replacement. Again, the unit worked fine after this latest service. Now, two months later the problem has not only resurfaced, but it's gotten even more bizarre. Besides erratic functioning of the master control buttons, the window and door controls on the passenger side doors stopped working for a day, then started working again today.
Also, the remote once again failed to open the driver's side door locks. Sometimes opening and closing a door will temporarily return functionality to the controls, but not always.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there anything I should know about the issue before I return to the dealer again and let them snow me with BS about the problem being resolved? BTW, the car is still under warranty. TIA for any input you can offer. Modified by jev7266 at 7:21 PM 10-9-2008. Would the connector between the Door and the car body have anything to do with this? I had problems with my Temp sensor and windows, I jiggled the connection around and that seemed to stop it.
Silicon grease may help for longer term. Although I'm not sure this is the only problem with you locks and all. I had the same problem and the harness was replaced. And with it the ambient temperature, seat, and window functions all went haywire. Since then just the windows and temperature have been issues. Thanks for the info, mcevoya. A few days ago my dealer did exactly what you said (replaced the connectors and harnesses on both front doors) and so far no problems.
It was most common for the remote to not operate the locks when it was raining - probably failed like 90% of the time in wet conditions. It's been raining all day here and the remote worked fine several times tonight, so hopefully this is a good sign. On another note, I had a complete failure of the dashboard a few days before I brought the car in for the window/door lock problem. All of a sudden nothing on the dash worked - like power to it had been cut. Luckily I was only a mile or so from my dealer and they managed to get it working temporarily that day, but they said a DIMM needed replacement because they were getting testing errors.
They replaced this part as well and I saw the warranty service sheet for Volvo for both fixes: $1,550.55. I'm now looking into extended warranty plans. Just joined the forum. My wife has a 2006 Volvo s40. She is experiencing the drivers side door and rear door lock and window malfunctioning. Switched key fobs with no success.
We have to enter through the passengers side and unlock the drivers door from the inside. Also while driving the drivers window will get stuck several times before it is all the way up. We have noticed our problem to be temperature sensitive. The malfunctioning of the door lock and window started as soon as the winter weather started (Temps in the 20's and 30's). Then we had a week of warm weather and the doors and windows worked normally. However, this week is back in the 30's and now the problem is back. This is without rain.
Just cold air. No freezing water involved. Has anyone else experienced this.
We bought this car brand new in 2006, still under warrenty. Major incovenience when you pay this kind of money. This is the second time I will have to take this car back to the dealer.
Last year the message display went out. They had to replace the whole unit. When you buy a new car, you shouldn't have to keep returning to the dealer for repairs.
Hello.I just purchased my car 2 months ago.I have a volvo s40. The 06 front door harness connectors are prone to corrosion. The greasing that was done in the old 163 recall or whatever it was didnt take care of it and over time the terminals corrode. Per tech bulletin the front door harness connectors should be replaced with the updated part. I have done countless sets of these due to customer door lock, window operation, and ambient temp complaints. There will be common CEM, DDM, PDM fault codes stored to look for when the symptom complaints are present.
Id have it taken in for inspection if you dont have the white label on the lower pillar by the connector. Thats placed there if the procedure has already been done since gold plated terminals are used in the updated part thus any service work would require the same. My '06 is out of warranty and I have been experiencing door issues like those above. Mine typically only happens in the fall and winter when it's wet and snowy. I have been able to get around it by opening and closing the door a few times to get the connection working. Well, this has just started happening to me, as well as another friend with a 2008 C30. I'll start with cleaning/greasing the connections and also checking that power is getting to the window/mirror switches. Dissect the door to see if there's a loose wire or bad ground. My mirror turn signal and lock still work and illuminate.
It's only the driver's side panel (with the window switch and mirror adjustments) that's not working. Buying Guide. Passenger side switch works just fine. Pczeilon, could you send me the info for Volvo's fix? I'll do a full write up on wire harness replacement, if simply cleaning the connectors doesn't fix my issue.
Do these connector problems also spread to the mirrors? Since the temperatures went up my driver side mirror is acting up, upon unlocking the car it tries to move to the most downward position. When I turn on the ignition and adjust it back the movement is gone and everything is fine? How many key fobs do you have? Have you tried unlocking your car with a different key to see if the issue continues?
I'm not sure if it was an option on MY2005, but the seats and mirrors can have memory associated with a particular key fob. How many key fobs do you have? Yes I know that, I for once read the instructions (man sometimes written words sound so full of sass, but trust me, there is no sass in that!) I have two fobs, but I use the same one the other is safely stored with my original rti disc on my drawer. But thanks for pointing that out with the fobs!
I thought about it but forgot, since I use the same key. Also maybe could it be connected to my dead battery? It was nearly empty, so maybe they are acting up because of that? Yep, I think talking to MNIWT about my issue somehow sent bad juju to his car:'( Also hoping to get the info for the fix. I am nowhere near as skilled or experienced with cars, but if a fix can be done with the assistance of my dad or boyfriend who know their way around things a little better, I'd like to try and go that route first!
My mirror and lock are affected in addition to the window controls, so I am pretty sure problem is originating from the harness or ground. Not impossible. My battery required a charge this last week, had the car parked for 6 days in the subfreezing temps without being started. Stupid me left my OBDII device plugged in for that entire time. I may try disconnecting the battery and resetting the system as well.
Thanks for the reminder of that! Ah well okay, will see to that. Tomorrow I will try and see if the odd mirror behavior can be replicated with the other key. If so I will go and do as you suggested. I guess if I do search the forum I will find instructions to the system reset? Hi all, Been lurking on occassion, but mostly been on hiatus as my '02 S60 has been performing completely trouble-free and beautifully since I got it in '09. However, for a while now I have been having trouble with the front passenger door lock and window and I'm wondering if you can help me out.
Here are the symptoms: 1.) The front passenger window won't go up! Occasionally, I have noticed it won't go down either, but I try not to mess with it since I don't want it stuck down at the most inopportune moment.
To get it to go up the first time, an old Jedi master mechanic at the Volvo dealer sat in the car turned the key and got it to go up like nothing was wrong at all, whereas neither I nor the service manager could get it to go up after trying everything. We looked like fools. Don't know what the mechanic did or if it was dumb luck for the mechanic. Since it went up, I drove away happy, but it is not fixed. I avoided that window, but eventually I forgot and put it down and it would not go up again. This time I tried everything, and tried a few new things I read: manually locking and unlocking the door a bunch of times, turning the key to all kinds of positions, letting the car sit, etc. Finally, it worked after I pulled the fuse and put it back.
The window went up and I am not messing with it again! But I need to fix this as this is a BIG problem! And I wonder if it might somehow be related to the following: 2.) Unlocking the vehicle from the car's switch or remote unlocks all the doors every time, however locking the vehicle from the car switches or remote only sometimes works for the front passenger door.
![]()
Most of the time, I have to manually lock the front passenger door. A problem but not a big one as long as I lock it manually. I can live with that. 3.) For a long while now, the puddle light on the front passenger mirror will stay on while driving and stay on for a long period of time after I lock the car and leave it. It eventually turns off and is always off when I return to the car, but the driver's side mirror does not do this at all (although that might be because the driver's side bulb is burnt). It doesn't seem that the passenger side should stay on while driving or long after I turn off the car, but it doesn't bother me. Although probably not related, I'm a little bummed out that ever since it got cold a month or two ago, I no longer get a temperature reading on the dash.
It just reads two dashes. A temperature reading did pop up once or twice when it broke 40 I believe. Not a big problem, but as it worked the winter before I wonder if this is might be an indication that dash module (don't remember the name) is going is south. Otherwise everything else works great! Thanks in advance for any feedback! You'll also notice that your passenger mirror won't move or heat up as well.
Your PDM (passenger door module) is going bad, which is the module that contains the passenger lock and window switches, it's attached to the door panel. I just had that same problem with my 01 V70, only in my case it was black and white, as soon as it dropped below 20 degrees it quit working, if I did a battery reset once the temp came up, it would work fine through the summer. The PDM controls: Power window, power lock, mirror movement, mirror defrost, and dash temp readout (the sensor is in the passenger mirror). I got tired of resetting it, and tired of spending the winter without the passenger door lock or window working so I replaced it a few weeks ago with a junkyard PDM. If you get the same part number a used module will swap with no programming. Don't even waste your time with one that doesn't match, I tried it.
Welcome to the Reddit Volvo Club! Volvos are pretty neat. They have wheels, and a steering wheel, a horn and are made of metal boxes. That's pretty good.

Volvo S60 Driver Door Module
Volvo forums:. For the classics:. Parts:. Hey all, I have a bit of a puzzle with the electronics (I assume?) in the driver's door of my 2002 base model S60. The window got left open in the rain, and since then the remote will not lock/unlock the driver's door, and the window does not operate. I'm hoping someone might be able to help me narrow down which parts need replaced.
What works/doesn't work:. The driver’s door lock works fine with the key in the door. The remote locks and unlocks the other three doors, but the driver’s door lock stays put, whether it is locked or unlocked to start. The other three windows each work fine from their own door controls. The buttons on the driver door controls DO:. operate the passenger-side mirror.
operate the passenger and rear windows. lock the passenger and rear doors if they are unlocked.
operate the child-locks (button light comes on) The driver's door controls do NOT:. operate the driver’s door window.
operate the driver's-side mirror (though the button light comes on if you press the 'L' button). un-lock ANY of the four doors if they are locked (though you can hear it 'try'/click inside the doors). Also the passenger door lock button will not unlock any of the doors if they are locked (though you can hear it 'try'/click inside all four doors). If anyone can deduce from all this what part(s) need replaced, I would be eternally grateful!
A friend has a 2002 V70 cross-country. MOST of the time, when he attempts to lock his driver side door, the door locks and immediately unlocks. This happens only on the driver door all other doors simply lock and stay locked. Using the key fob, the mechnical door lock with a key or even the inside switch has the same result.
I say most of time since after doing it several times, you can get it to stop this and simply lock all doors. And there are times when all is fine doors lock without any problems.
One of the 4 door lock motor/latch/switch assemblies have failed. The dealer needs to connect to car to Vadis to determine which door lock switch has failed. The door lock/latch assembly is all one piece. There is a door opened/closed switch and a lock/unlocked switch inside of each of the 4 door latch assemblies. The lock/unlock switch has failed in one of the 4 doors. The DDM (Drivers Door Module) monitors all of the 4 doors activities and settings. When the DDM sees that one of the door lock/unlock signals is still in the unlock mode when it should be in the lock mode a message is sent to unlock the drivers door.
Sometimes the offending door lock knob will not activate and this will be the faulty latch assembly. Mostly the door lock button will lock but the lock/unlock signal for that door will be kept as unlocked because the lock signal was never sent due to a faulty lock/unlock switch. The DDM remembers the last signal received was for unlocked. In Vadis you can monitor each Door open/closed or each lock/unlocked switch. Of course the dorrs have to act up to see the faulty latch assembly while being monitored in Vadis. This may not work for your problem.
There is a way to reset the door locks and sunroof if they fail to operate. This includes a non working lock button on the drivers door panel. This is for all S80's, 2001 up S60 and V70's. Key on, dash lights lit. Close both front windows.
Hold both front window switches, in drivers door, in the up position for about 6 seconds or so, release. Close all doors, hood and trunk lid. Using the remote, lock and unlock the car twice.
The UEM, Upper Electronic Module is now reset. The above will not correct a faulty part. BD - 'Fred' wrote in message news.

Any ideas? Thank you very much for your detailed and informative response. I will try to reset the module see what happens. I appreciate the help. Problem here in MA is that anytime you show up at any Volvo dealer, they want $800 min. No matter what they do.
